Seven years after it made its debut in 2010, the second-generation Audi S7 was released. This super-stylish, well-appointed and very fast executive saloon is now better than ever.
The All-New Audi S7 boasts an attractive coupé-like silhouette, complete with swooping roofline. The car’s front fascia is dominated by a bold trapezoidal radiator grille, which sports the marque’s iconic four-ring emblem and S7 badge. The rear of the vehicle is no less eye-catching with, for example, a quad-exhaust system that features dual-branch twin tailpipes. To complete the stylish look, the car rides on lightweight 20-inch alloy wheels that are fitted with black-painted brake calipers. A five-door body ensures that this high-performance car is also a practical one.
The S7’s limo-like cabin is upholstered in Valcona leather, which is embellished with smart dark silver contrast stitching. The car provides generous amounts of space for four full-size adults – and front-row travellers are treated to power-adjustable sports seats. The driver benefits from further luxury with a three-spoke leather-clad steering wheel. The S7’s Adaptive Air Suspension system utilises continuously variable and electronically calibrated dampers to deliver the smoothest possible ride, regardless of fluctuations in speed or road surface variances. The vehicle possesses a useful 535-litre boot space too, which expands to 1,390 litres with the rear seats folded.
The All-New four-wheel-drive Audi S7 is powered by a 4.0-litre 414bhp engine, which is mated to a seven-speed twin-clutch gearbox. This turbocharged unit produces 550Nm of torque, 0-60mph in under five seconds and an electronically limited maximum speed of 155mph. New to the S7, this engine comes with a fuel-saving Start-Stop system too. Whenever optimal power isn’t required, Audi’s on-demand cylinder system kicks in, shutting off four of the engine’s eight cylinders in order to deliver enhanced efficiency.
The S7’s dashboard-mounted MMI infotainment system features a retractable 6.5-inch colour screen. This provides intuitive control over the car’s sound system, which includes, among other things, DAB digital radio. Bluetooth connectivity features too, enabling audio streaming and hands-free telephony, while a satellite navigation system makes route-planning as simple as possible.
The S7 is fitted with an array of driver aids in order to keep everyone on board as safe as possible. For instance, Adaptive Cruise Control uses radar technology that automatically adjusts vehicle speed, thus ensuring that a safe distance is maintained from the vehicle ahead. Park Assist features too, with ultrasonic sensors that automatically steer the vehicle into a pre-measured space, with the driver needing to only operate the accelerator and brakes. The car’s prodigious bursts of pace and high speeds are tempered by an exceedingly effective enhanced braking system.
