The All-New Mazda MX-5 Z-Sport is a UK-only release that is available now from Croydon Mazda. The super-stylish MX-5 mark IV has received rave reviews – and is even more desirable in this limited-edition Z-Sport iteration. Classic sports-car styling and contemporary design techniques conspire to make this affordable convertible an automotive must-have.
This compact convertible is perfect for zipping along busy city streets or navigating twisting country lanes. The Z-Sport edition features a natty Cherry Red soft-top, which contrasts pleasingly with the classy Machine Grey metallic paint finish of the body. This particular MX-5 variant rides on stylish jet-black 17-inch alloy wheels too, and comes with a number of labour-saving features. Included are heated exterior mirrors and low-to-high-beam LED headlamps. LED daytime running lights feature too, bringing even more sparkle to the vehicle, while ensuring that it is always easy for other motorists to spot.
The MX-5 Z-Sport is a lot of fun to drive solo, and even more so with a significant other or best friend in tow. This racy two-seater features a cockpit-style driver environment, with its rotary dials and aircraft-like air vents. A seven-inch colour touchscreen display dominates the car’s dashboard, making it easy to monitor and control satellite navigation and audio functions – the latter includes DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity. Both seats are upholstered in Sand Leather, as are great swathes of the car’s dashboard and door trims. A number of Z-Sport-specific fixtures include scuff plates and floor mats – and an individually numbered plaque positioned on the dash. Whenever the weather turns a little chilly, and the fabric roof is firmly in place, the car’s climate-controlled air-conditioning helps provide a toasty cabin ambience.
The MX-5 Z-Sport is powered by a 2.0-litre 158bhp petrol engine, which is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. This four-cylinder unit produces 200Nm of torque and 0-60mph in a touch over seven seconds – and an electronically controlled top speed of 133mph. The car’s lightweight build, which makes much use of aluminium, ensures that it is relatively cheap to run, and contributes to it returning as much as 40.9mpg.
The MX-5 has been awarded a maximum rating for pedestrian protection by crash-test specialists Euro NCAP, thanks to a clever impact-absorbing bonnet. A wide range of driver aids include Electronic Stability Control, Anti-lock Braking System and Hill-hold Assist, while rear sensors help to make parking a breeze. Passive safety features include multiple airbags, head restraints and ISOFIX child-seat anchors, ensuring that travellers of all ages are kept as secure as possible.
