The new Golf SV builds upon the many qualities of the highly regarded regular model to produce an even more practical vehicle. Elegantly bridging the gap between hatchback and MPV, the Golf SV is available in S, SE, SE Navigation and GT trim levels.
Attractive and user-friendly, the new Golf SV features a five-door body that makes access for rear-row travellers as simple as can be. The car is fitted with tinted glass too, which protects occupants from the beam of strong sunlight. Black roof rails crown the vehicle, providing the opportunity to transport normally unwieldy items such as bikes and canoes. The car is fitted with a number of body-coloured fixtures too, such as bumpers, door handles and (power-adjustable and heated) door mirrors, the latter featuring integrated indicator lights. Further exterior illumination includes LED daytime running lights, which emit an arresting light signature, while making the vehicle clearly visible to other motorists.
The new Golf SV’s nicely appointed cabin features height-adjustable front seats, and allows the driver to truly establish an ideal position, thanks to the inclusion of a rake-and-reach-adjustable steering wheel. Other standard features include front and rear electric windows and air-conditioning – and a heated rear windscreen that makes light work of condensation and frost. A number of useful stowage cubbies are provided too, including good-size door bins and a refrigerated glovebox. The Golf SV comes with 60/40 split-folding rear seats that fold flat to the boot floor, and is height-adjustable and removable too. Luggage volume is a very useful 590 litres (all seats in place), rising to 1,520 litres (rear seats dropped).
A 1.0-litre 84bhp petrol engine is fitted as standard with entry-level S trim, returning up to 57.6mpg, while producing CO2 emissions from 112g/km. Offering optimal efficiency is a 1.6-litre 113bhp diesel unit. Available with S, SE and SE Navigation grades, this returns as much as 68.9mpg, and produces emissions as low as 107g/km. A 2.0-litre 148bhp diesel unit (SE, SE Navigation and GT trims), meanwhile, delivers 340Nm of torque, 0-60mph in a little more than nine seconds, 60.1mpg (combined) and 122g/km of CO2.
An eight-inch colour touchscreen is included as standard, allowing easy operation of the Golf SV’s eight-speaker sound system, which features DAB radio and a CD player. USB, SD and AUX inputs are included too, as is Bluetooth connectivity, which facilitates audio streaming and hands-free telephony.
The vehicle has been awarded a five-star Euro NCAP crash-test rating and is fitted with numerous driver aids and passive safety features. Included are Anti-lock Braking System, Automatic Post-collision Braking System and Driver Alert System. The latter provides the driver with an audio/visual notification whenever signs of drowsiness are detected. Also included are front seatbelt reminders and multiple airbags – and ISOFIX seat mounts and tamper-proof rear door locks for safely securing younger occupants.
