The upgraded looks, performance and comfort in the Passat are specifically targeting business drivers, although individuals and families can benefit just as much from these wide-ranging improvements.
Every Volkswagen is instantly recognisable, and the Passat stands out with swept-back headlights, a three-bar chrome front grille, twin exhaust pipes and short overhangs. The vehicle is overall lighter and more compact than the outgoing generation, with a completely new chassis and extensive use of high-tensile steel.
When you get into the saloon, you will find an increased amount of personal space and a redesigned dashboard. The boot space has also risen by 21 litres to a capacious 586 litres, drawing closer to the estate car's 650-litre load volume. An optional 12.3-inch TFT display replaces the entire instrument panel with a clear, interactive screen for all drive information.
Volkswagen has produced an increasingly long line of cars which have achieved a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. A number of new protective measures arrive with the Passat from the mid-level equipment grades, such as the Pre-Crash system, Front Assist and adaptive cruise control. On the outside of the car, a new feature is the automatic tailgate – activated by waving a foot under the sensor integrated with the rear bumper.
The engine range with the latest Passat in the UK is comprised solely of diesel versions. A 1.6-litre BlueMotion option will offer some of the highest efficiency and economy, at up to 78mpg combined and only 95g/km of CO2 emissions.
