Honda Civic Type R

The Honda Civic is one of the best hatchbacks money can buy – accordingly, the Civic Type R is one of the best hot hatches on the market. It looks great, boasts an upmarket interior and it drives like a dream – it’s also a great everyday automobile.

There is only one – the Honda Civic Type R is a very singular car indeed.

Type R

Spacious interior Whether shuttling the kids to school or hitting the town with friends, the Type R has your back with its roomy four-seat cabin and 410-litre boot. The latter is more than can be found in either the Toyota GR86 or Volkswagen Golf GTI – and with rear seats folded, luggage capacity expands to 1,220 litres.
Sporty ride Low-slung, lightweight racing seats not only deliver enhanced back support, they allow you and your co-passenger to feel fully a part of the Type R straight-line experience. Speaking of which, the car’s four-cylinder turbocharged engine produces 325bhp and 420Nm of torque, enabling 0-62mph in just 5.4 seconds.
Digital instrument display A 10.2-inch driver’s display provides essential information – and customisable driving modes which allow you to match the car’s performance to your particular style. It also lets you access Honda LogR 2.0 data which can help you finesse your lap times in a closed-course environment.
Type R tech This hot hatch is equipped with a Honda CONNECT multimedia system that includes a nine-inch touchscreen, an eight-speaker sound system, navigation functionality, Apple/Android smartphone integration and Bluetooth and USB connectivity. The car is loaded with driver-assist systems too, including Collision-mitigation Braking, Forward-collision Warning, Lane-keep Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition.
Exterior While offering easy five-door access, the latest Civic Type R wears its performance credentials lightly. That is to say, it’s not an overly designed (and therefore unsightly) car. It’s subtly styled and elegantly shaped – and yet, when you look closer, its many sporty features soon come to the fore.

Alloy allure The Type R rides on striking 19-inch Matte Black alloy wheels that are designed as much for efficiency and performance as they are to attract admiring gazes.
Leading lights This scintillating hot hatch is fitted with a range of high-intensity, long-lasting LEDs, including automatic Adaptive Driving Beam headlamps. Thanks to Honda’s innovative High Beam Support technology they deliver perfect illumination, without dazzling oncoming vehicles.
Typically Type R The Type R stands out with fixtures such as a black shark-fin antenna, a model-specific triple exhaust and a distinctive Berlin Black radiator grille. Other typically impressive fixtures include bespoke Type R bumpers, diffuser and side skirts – and a raised spoiler, complete with die-cast aluminium stays.
Choose your colour With five classy colours to choose from, you’ll have no problem selecting the one that matches your driving style. Championship White, Sonic Grey and Crystal Black Pearl are sober but nonetheless arresting tones; Racing Blue Pearl and Rallye Red, meanwhile, possess attractively vivid qualities.
