The Honda HR-V combines practicality with comfort and style to make a popular family-friendly vehicle.
The exterior of the vehicle is stylish and streamlined, with Honda’s uniquely quirky and sporty design. Dusk-sensing lights switch on when the lighting conditions begin to worsen, and powerful halogen daytime running lights stay on throughout the day to increase the visibility of the car. In addition to these practical features, the car also has chrome exterior doors handles, a Shark Fin antenna and a body-coloured tailgate spoiler.
The steering wheel is tilt and telescopic adjustable, allowing the driver to suit the position of the wheel according to his or her individual preference. There are nifty storage options, with Honda’s trademark fold-up Magic Seats and a luggage floor box. To improve the ease and comfort of the driving experience the car comes with cruise control, climate-controlled air conditioning and one-touch power windows.
The standard 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine can go from 0-60mph in around 10.2 seconds, with an impressive top speed of 119mph. The car handles well, with light, responsive steering and good traction control.
The HR-V is fitted with Idle Stop, which turns off the engine when the car would otherwise be idling. It can reach an economical 50.4mpg in a combined cycle and 130g of CO2 per km.
The car is quiet and smooth to drive, with the fast acceleration helping it to nip quickly around city streets and power away from slower vehicles on open roads. The handling is light and responsive and the car feels secure even at higher speeds.
Safety is a high priority in the HR-V, with whiplash-lessening front headrests, front and side airbags and seat belts with emergency locking retractor.
Among the safety systems included as standard are the anti-locking braking system, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and a tyre-deflation warning system. The City Brake Active System detects obstacles that are in front of the vehicle and applies the brakes if an impact seems likely.
The HR-V comes equipped with a Bluetooth hands-free telephone system, DAB digital radio and iPod-compatible USB port. There are also remote audio controls on the steering wheel to reduce the risk of distraction for the driver.
