New Audi A1

The Audi A1 has been given a facelift for 2015, tweaking this already-great supermini with a reworked chassis, state-of-the art interactive technology and choice of upgraded engines. A smart, eye-catching car, the Audi A1 balances excellent style with fantastic running costs.

The Audi A1 is one of the most mature-looking superminis on the market, from the sophisticated grille design right down to the heated, electrically-adjustable exterior mirrors. The facelift sees a redesigned front and rear bumper and an extra 20mm in length compared to the earlier model. Whether you choose the SE, Sport or S line trim, the Audi A1 comes with alloy wheels and a sculpted, compact body – smartly engineered and full of great ideas.

These ideas become apparent as soon as you sit in the driver’s seat, staring at a high-gloss black 6.5-inch MMI display screen on the sleek central console. Easy-entry front seats come with all models, along with split-folding rear seats and gear-shift paddles on the adjustable steering wheel for S tronic transmissions. Headlining in titanium grey cloth comes as standard, with black cloth available for the top-of-the-range S line. The Sport and the S line also offer a number of other extras when it comes to interiors, from leather handbrake grips to aluminium trim for control switches, glove compartment, door handles and door sills.

Engines & Performance

Powering the Audi A1 is a choice of petrol or diesel engines, with the 1.0-litre TFSI or 1.6-litre TDI coming as standard with the SE model. The attention-grabbing 1.0-litre TFSI petrol three-cylinder reaches 94bhp and a top speed of 116mph, compared to the 1.6-litre TDI diesel four-cylinder with 114bhp and a top speed of 124mph. If you’re planning on driving a lot each year, the Audi A1 offers impressive economy at 80.7mpg with the 1.6-litre TDI diesel engine. Or if you’re looking for something sporty, the 1.4-litre TFSI four-cylinder petrol engine in the Sport and S line trim levels goes from 0-60mph in around 7.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 134mph.

Audi has been a pioneer in the field of advanced technology and the A1 is no exception. Packed full of smart tech, the supermini features remote central locking, air conditioning, DAB digital radio and SD memory card readers across the three models. The Sport and S line trim levels also feature Bluetooth® audio streaming, Audi music interface connection and built-in voice controls. All models feature electromechanical power steering, while the two top trims come with Audi Drive Select, although this isn’t available with the 1.0-litre TFSI engine.

Safety and Security

The original A1 received a five-star Euro NCAP rating and the facelift maintains Audi’s reputation for safety. Driver, front passenger, front side and head airbags are all in place, as is an Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD). A tyre pressure monitor comes as standard. The A1 model also includes a Thatcham Category 1 alarm and immobiliser, making the car both safe and secure.
