The all-new Mazda CX-80 is set to arrive in the UK in the third quarter of 2024, marking its position as Mazda's flagship model in Europe. Part of Mazda’s Large Product Group, it shares its lineage with the CX-60 and North American market CX-70 and CX-90 SUVs, all featuring a longitudinal front-engine and rear-wheel-drive layout. The CX-80 distinguishes itself with a spacious three-row seating configuration – making it the most capacious SUV Mazda in Europe – while targeting premium brands in the same market.
Powering the Mazda CX-80 are the same engines found in the CX-60: a plug-in hybrid combining a Skyactiv-G 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a 129kW electric motor and a 17.8 kWh battery, and a 3.3-litre six-cylinder e-Skyactiv diesel engine. Both drivetrains feature all-wheel drive as standard.
Compared to the CX-60, the CX-80’s wheelbase is extended by 250mm. This, along with a 26mm increase in height, provides additional space for its three-row interior without compromising the vehicle’s attractive styling.
The CX-80 will be available in five trim levels: Exclusive-Line, Homura, Takumi, Homura Plus and Takumi Plus. Each will offer a range of options for seat layouts and equipment, with prices starting at £48,920.
Visually, the CX-80 maintains a design language similar to the front of the CX-60 but distinguishes itself in profile with an extended length that emphasises its third-row seating and integrated roof rails. It also debuts two new exterior colours in the UK: Artisan Red and Melting Copper, adding to the existing palette.
The vehicle will feature three middle-row configurations: standard three-person bench seat; two captain’s seats with a walk-through space; two captain’s seats with a fixed centre console.
We anticipate that the standard seven-seat layout will be the most popular CX-80 variant.
Compared to the CX-60, the CX-80 offers increased shoulder room, headroom, hip point spacing and distance between the front and second rows, thus delivering enhanced passenger comfort. Additionally, the vehicle introduces new in-car features such as Alexa voice control for music, air conditioning, navigation and third-party apps.
As Mazda UK's Managing Director, Jeremy Thomson puts it: “The all-new Mazda CX-80 is our new flagship SUV, a car that sits at the very top of our range in the UK. It will offer a unique blend of space, practicality, luxury and stand-out design. It combines progressive design anchored in Japanese aesthetics with outstanding on-board accommodation that delivers quality, style, flexibility and superior technology, all combined with the signature driving performance delivered by every Mazda.”
He adds: “The all-new Mazda CX-80 is a car that will allow us to challenge the established premium brands in the UK market with a luxury SUV that is the most spacious car in Mazda’s European line-up. This opens the Mazda brand up to UK customers who need the space and practicality of a three-row large SUV – so we can’t wait for the car to arrive with our dealers this autumn, where it will join our award-winning SUV line-up.”
Indeed, the all-new Mazda CX-80 will be on sale at Croydon Mazda this autumn.
