The Motability Car Scheme Rules and Who is Eligible

Customers eligible for the Motability scheme include recipients of the following:

Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)

Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP)

War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement

Armed Forces Independence Payment

Furthermore, the driver of your Motability car does not need to be the direct recipient of any of these payments. One or two family members, friends or carers of anyone receiving the allowances listed above can be nominated by the recipient as additional drivers; a third named driver can be added to the scheme at a small additional cost.*

To be eligible, users of the scheme must be receiving any of these benefits for at least 12 more months. Unfortunately, potential customers cannot use their Attendance Allowance to lease a car through the scheme.

Our Motability specialists are well-versed in all aspects of the scheme, and will be pleased to provide all necessary information about your eligibility and/or that of potential nominated drivers. Get in touch with the helpful staff at any of our dealerships in Surrey and South London to find out more about your personal eligibility. If you do not presently receive one of the payments listed at the start of this article, but think you may have a right to one, you can assess your entitlement at .

*Only one nominated driver can be under the age of 21. Drivers younger than 25 years old are also only eligible to drive vehicles in ABI insurance groups 1-16, and powered by engines with less than 115hp. Nominated drivers' past convictions or disqualifications may also be taken into account.
