Volkswagen e-up!

It’s emissions-free. It’s sustainable. It’s fun to drive. Volkswagen’s small all-electric car, the new e-up!, is lighting up the road for all the right reasons.

Exterior

For those who make short journeys, electric cars are making more and more sense. They reduce running costs, are great for the environment, and are perfect for nipping around towns and cities. The e-up! does all of that and more as it adds a sprinkle of exuberance to your day with its natty style and fresh personality. Firstly it is available in a great selection of vibrant colours so you can inject a bit of your personality to that of the e-up!. The front grille is framed by striking C-signature LED lights sitting on top of some very tidy 15-inch ‘blade’ alloy wheels.

Once inside the e-up!, it is clear that the interior is a continuation of the stylish design. A very comfy 'Fusion' cloth interior is complemented by quirky and useful features, like a hook for your bag in the glove compartment and several additional storage points like a luggage compartment in the floor​

Performance

The electric power train provides a surprisingly punchy drive that is swift when pulling away and, every time you stop, five regenerative braking modes are working to recharge the battery using the power produced during the braking process. With a range of up to 161 miles (WLTP), it’s unlikely you’d have to recharge between journeys but if you do, the number of rapid charge points across the UK is growing daily. These CCS fast chargers can top you up to 80% in just an hour. Once back home, you can expect to reach a full charge in around five and a half hours via 7kW home charger, or 16 hours via a standard outlet plug.

If you are conscious about when you want your car to charge, you even have the option to delay charging using the e-manager app. Simply plug it in and control the charge starting via your phone, which means you can delay charging to off-peak hours when electricity is cheaper.

Safety

What is great about the e-up! is that the innovations just keep coming. With new technology and practical driving assistance features like Lane Assist and traffic sign reminder, safety is all sewn up. Small but reassuring features like front and side airbags and seat occupant sensors for the rear seats allow you to focus on enjoying the drive without any worry.

Technology

While driving, you can connect your Apple or Android smartphone to and use the Volkswagen ‘Maps + More’ app to safely access and use all your key functions including hands-free calls and navigation, or music streaming. There is a very nice smartphone cradle on the dashboard so that your phone is stored safely whilst driving. As standard, the e-up! has some great kit including air conditioning, automatic emergency braking, rear parking sensors and cruise control. These make it easy to drive, while the silent electric motor and superb suspension make the ride both quiet and smooth.
