Tyre Longevity and Maintenance Tips
Service Life Summer tyres: 8–10 years

Winter tyres: 6–8 years
or approximately 35,000 km

Check the DOT number to determine tyre age.
Tread Depth Ensure tread depth doesn’t fall below 1.6 mm,
the legal minimum. Regular checks help
maintain safety.
Storage Store tyres in a cool, dark, and dry environment
when not in use to prevent damage.

Key Maintenance Practices

Tyre Pressure

Check regularly to avoid uneven wear. Adjust for heavy loads but avoid over-inflation

Avoid Damage

Avoid spinning tyres, curb impacts, and exposure to oil or grease.

Balancing and Alignment

Balance tyres during seasonal changes and maintain proper axle geometry to ensure even wear.

Cleanliness

Protect tyres from aggressive cleaning agents and UV exposure.

Tyre Pressure
Monitoring Systems (TPMS)

Since November 2014, all new VW models feature TPMS to enhance safety and comfort

Direct System

Sensors measure and display tyre pressure. Seasonal tyre changes may require sensor calibration or replacement.

Indirect System

Calculates tyre pressure based on wheel rotations. No sensor replacement needed during seasonal changes.
Identifying Tyre Issues
Abrasion Points Often caused by curb impacts, leading to structural instability.
Cracks or Embedded Objects Ageing or foreign objects may cause gradual pressure loss or
rusting.
Sawtooth Wear Indicates shock absorber issues or incorrect alignment.
Shoulder or Centre Wear Caused by incorrect pressure or rapid cornering.
FAQs on Tyre Care

Where to find Tyre Pressure Info

Close
Check your owner's manual or the tank cap.

Tyre Pressure Checks

Close

Use a gauge at fuel stations when tyres are cold.

Detecting Leaks

Close

Monitor for raid pressure loss. A slow leak may indicate a valve or tyre issue.
