The Sharan borrows many aesthetic features from the rest of Volkswagen's range, evident from the characteristic front end. Vibrant headlamps sit between a simplistic front grille that proudly holds the brand badge, and body-coloured bumpers feature at the front and rear. Roof rails, alloy wheels and LED lights are gained higher up the range, but tinted glass comes as standard for extra comfort in the cabin. Of course, the optional electric sliding side doors make accessing the passenger compartment easier than ever before, opening at the touch of a button.
The interior is capable of seating seven in ultimate luxury, providing an abundance of head and legroom alongside numerous seating arrangements. The second and third rows fold flat for a long and wide storage table, with load volumes from 300 litres up to 2,297 litres achievable. It’s also equipped with durable Alcantara upholstery that can manage all of the family’s scuffs and spills with ease.
The new Sharan is equipped with an efficient 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine that is complemented by either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Both options provide up to to 150ps of power, with CO2 emissions of just 180g/km and fuel economy of up to 35.8mpg achievable, making this a cost effective and responsive family vehicle.
Key infotainment features include Multi Device Interface (MDI) with USB and iPod connection, DAB digital receiver and optional Bluetooth telephone preparation. The Car-Net App-Connect system, meanwhile, enables you to mirror the screen of your compatible Apple or Android device, with the touchscreen display letting you take control of calls, satellite navigation, media streaming and much more.
Every journey is undertaken with the utmost safety thanks to Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) which work to prevent accidents from happening. Numerous airbags, head restraints and ISOFIX child seat preparation limit the impact of a collision should one occur. Integrated child seats can be specified for the Sharan's second-row bench, which meet the necessary safety stipulations.
